Instagram's positioning as one of the largest social media platforms clearly isn't going to subside anytime soon, there are currently over a billion active users on a daily basis, and 200 million of those accounts view at least a single business account each day.
 
As an entrepreneur, Instagram should be a priority as a marketing channel.
 
However, there are over 20 million business accounts currently on Instagram, so when it comes to growing your own business account on Instagram, it can be difficult to know how you can differentiate yourself from the others.
 
Although the shady options of buying followers and likes might be tempting, this can lead to punishments being imposed by Instagram, which will ultimately backfire.
 
However, this isn't necessary, as a properly developed growth strategy will help your business account grow organically.

Before we take a look at some of the methods to grow your Instagram account's followers organically, it's first important to evaluate the goal of you growing your account's followers.
 
It's also worth learning the metrics that matter most on Instagram, as well as the signs to look for that will help indicate whether or not your account is actually growing.
 
Arguably the most common KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for Instagram include follower engagement (liking, commenting, bookmarking, and sharing your posts), as well as link clicking, website traffic, using hashtags, and engagement on stories.
 
So, before you can begin your campaign, you need to identify which of these KPIs are going to be the most important for you and your account, and once you've got your targets identified, you can begin your campaign by making use of some of the methods below!
Post Optimization

When it comes to a platform like Instagram, there's no denying that one of the best ways to grow your followers organically is through your posts, more specifically, by optimizing your posts to the highest possible standard, especially when you consider the sheer volume of below standard posts that exist.

Instagram's Algorithm is a tough one to get used to, but it essentially works by employing an AI to choose which post will appear in a user's feed, and posts made by what it can detect as "friends & family" will usually be ranked much higher in the list of posts to appear in comparison to a post from a random business account.

This means that you'll need to begin engaging with your target audience's post in order to help manipulate the algorithm.

Instagram will also rank posts that it thinks users will find interesting or relevant higher in the appearance list too, so what does that mean for you?

Your focus should be on posting quality content, which means ensuring that the sizing of the photos is correct, and the quality of your videos is high too, alongside being the correct duration.

You also need to make sure that you're posting at the correct times too, by using Instagram Insights, it means that you can get a better understanding of when your followers are most active, which means you can post at the optimal time each day.

Engagement
Even if you're producing great-looking content, and posting at the correct times, you still might not be getting the right amount of engagement, so how can you fix this?
 
It's likely that your content simply isn't engaging enough, and that your followers feel like it's not worth interacting with, which means you need to get creative on ways that you can help inspire people to engage with your posts!
 
Stories are a great way to do this and tend to have a greater impact than a still photo post will, and it means that you're not constantly clogging up your followers' feeds too, just be sure not to post too many stories either!
 
Instagram TV (IGTV) is similar to stories, and instead focuses on videos with their own covers, and is a great way to conduct visual promotion, or to collaborate with influencers or other large accounts.
 
Hashtags might seem slightly dated, but consistent use of new hashtags is how you're going to begin to reach new people, you just need to ensure that the hashtags you're using are relevant not only to your current followers but to your target audience too.
 
Product giveaways or contents are a fantastic way to grow followers organically, especially if you make following your account and sharing the post as requirements for the competition, but remember the prize has to be desirable for this to work.
Shoutouts
It feels a bit old school, but co-promotion is still powerful, so getting a shoutout from other influencers and large accounts is a great way to grow your follower count. Especially if your content is going to be relevant to their audiences!
 
Use hashtags to try and find accounts that would be willing to shout you out on their profile, and that you're willing to shout out on yours too.
Networking
In today's Instagram climate, it's the influencers that really hold a lot of the power when it comes to people deciding who they follow, which means that it pays to network amongst as many influencers as possible, and partnering up with popular influencers that are relevant to your Instagram page is a great way to increase your engagement and grow your followers organically!
